What Time Do Your Employees Open Your Business?

This morning I woke up at 5am to go to my gym in North Haven, Connecticut (not a common accomplishment for me). Arriving to the front door of the facility at 5:30am, the door was locked . Written clearly on the glass door shows:

Hours of Operation
Monday – Thursday: 5:00a.m. – 10:00p.m.
Friday: 5:00a.m. – 9:00p.m.
Saturday: 7:00a.m. – 6:00p.m.
Sunday: 7:00a.m. – 5:00p.m.

Someone did not do his or her job this morning. Often times business owners entrust their employees with opening and closing their places of businesses. It takes a lot for business owners to give up control and any employee’s failure to complete rudimentary tasks results in business owners hesitating to give up more control in the future. Here at ATP , we try to provide our commercial clients with checks and balances that allow them to feel more comfortable about giving up some control on running their businesses. Please see below for two possible solutions.

Total Connect
Honeywell’s Total Connect is an application that provides you real time updates about when your system is armed or disarmed and by what user. It also allows you to check the status of your alarm from anywhere in the world on your smartphone or tablet. In addition to seeing the status of the alarm system, you can arm or disarm the system remotely. Did a employee forget her code? No problem, just disarm the system from you iPad.

Hypothetical : Imagine receiving a text at 10pm on a Saturday night that your system was disarmed by one of your employees. Although the employee has an alarm password, it does not mean she should come into your office whenever she pleases. Total Connect is a great application that helps you run your business more effectively and efficiently.

Electronic Access Control
Electronic Access Control allows authorized users to unlock a door with a fob, card, or keypad. Depending on the system, authorized users can also unlock the door remotely. It also provides an activity log indicating what user and at what time the door was unlocked. This allows owners to have an audit trail indicating what time the business was open and by whom.

Hypothetical : An employee arrives to open a retail store at 9am to find a line of customers at the door. He goes to open the door with his key only to find that he left it at home. He now needs to go home to retrieve the key, delaying the opening of the store and potential revenue. If the store had electronic access control, the employee could have called the owner to unlock the door.

If the gym this morning had access control or Total Connect , the manager would have been able to see that the facility was never opened. He could have then made alternative plans to get it open for his paying membership. In order to be successful, business must earn and maintain the trust of its membership and patrons. Once that trust is lost, it is very difficult to get back.

Often security alarms have two communication paths—one that is primary and one that is backup. ATP Alarms encourages all customers to have a back up form of communication in the event the primary fails. We believe that the best is setup for fast and reliable communication is internet/WiFi primary with cellular backup.
