What’s Needed to Be Safe in a Car

Be Safe in a Car…Important Safety Tips by ATP

Today I’m inspired to write about what is needed to be safe while traveling in your car . You never know what life’s twists and turns will throw at you; this is why people buy insurance, home security , guns, dogs and other things to make them feel safe. What’s needed to be safe in a car ? I’ll tell you how I know… it was a dark summer night, my car broke down in the middle of nowhere and I wasn’t prepared. This was in the days pre cellphone, but cell phones alone should not be what you solely depend on.

It was a rural part of Florida, when I pulled to the side of the road my battery died and the only light I could see was the stars. No cars, no houses, no nothing… just stars. I could hear the mosquitoes coming before they got to me, and when they got to me the group of them could only be described as a swarm. I started to run, but had no flashlight and as I slipped I realized this situation would be even worse if I fell. I only had the clothes on my back and my wallet. I knew which direction the town was and I started in that direction. That whole time I was hard on myself. My wish list was simple;

  • Flash light
  • Mosquito repellent
  • Water
  • A blanket
  • An ABC fire extinguisher
  • Car Cell phone charger

Whether you live in warmer climates or colder ones these items could save your life . Water is imperative to survival. A flash light has many practical uses. Mosquito repellent and its need is self-explanatory and the blanket in my case would have helped keep those mosquitoes off of me, or warmed me up if I needed. A fire extinguisher is irreplaceable when you are involved in an emergency that includes fire. A cell phone could save your life, and their batteries only last so long. Carry a car charger with you in your vehicle.

All of the cars in my family have these basic essentials, and it took my personal bad experience to make sure of that. Being in the home security industry I hear stories from regular people daily about how they want to feel more secure. People worry about their homes when they aren’t there and take preventive measures to insure they have no surprises. While these measures are never full proof, what they add to peace of mind is priceless. I keep all of the above in a small milk crate in my trunk.

Security alarms can communicate via internet (hardwired or WiFi depending on the system), phone line, or cellular. Often security alarms have two communication paths—one that is primary and one that is backup. ATP Alarms encourages all customers to have a back up form of communication in the event the primary fails. We believe that the best is setup for fast and reliable communication is internet/WiFi primary with cellular backup. We feel that the internet communication is the fastest while the cellular is most reliable. Traditional alarms relied on phone lines to communicate.
