How much does it cost to install a new security system in Connecticut?

With news of theft and vandalism being reported almost daily across the state, more than ever, residents in Connecticut are starting to take measures to ensure the safety of their loved ones and assets.

One means of protection that homeowners typically gravitate towards is a security system. When searching online for information you will eventually notice that you cannot find answers to your questions, only company names and numbers to call. Over the course of time, we will attempt to educate you on all thing’s security, but to start why not touch on the most frequently asked question:

How much does it cost to install a new security system in Connecticut?

The elephant in the room that no security company would dare put in writing (at least accurately) or discuss prior to an in-home consultation. Is ATP going to cross that line? Yes, and we will be as transparent as possible too in order to save you the hassle of searching all across Google for the answer no one can find.

The Deceptive Mail Flier

So, let’s start this off by going over a common misconception. Nine times out of ten there is an upfront cost associated with the products and installation of a home security system. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but that flier you received in the mail, it is extremely misleading. The bold lettering that states, 10 door or window sensors and 1 motion sensor for no money down, $31.99 a month, and you also receive $100.00 gift card sounds enticing, but did you read the fine print? If not, then I hope you have a landline otherwise there will be an upfront price and that monthly fee that looks awfully attractive will increase. Also, the national company listed on the brochure…. yeah, that is not who you are dealing with during the installation process. You are speaking with a dealer that is going to sell your account to the national provider after a few months and once again your monthly rate is going to increase. A security company that is dishonest and that you will never hear from or see again, seems backwards, right?

Now let’s pull back the curtain to give you an idea of what the upfront cost might actually be. The answer is more straightforward than most think. The price is dependent on two factors: how you will be using the system and what types of products you want installed. A customer that wants a basic security system is going to pay less than someone turning their home into Fort Knox. Groundbreaking, I know.

Smaller Systems

In most cases, a basic security system price range will be anywhere between $300.00-$500.00 for products and installation. This setup is for customers that are more so concerned about having their home protected when they are not there or need a temporary solution. A layout like this will typically consist of sensors on your doors along with motion sensors in hot spots of your home in order to create an interior trap.

Additional Coverage

A step up from that price range will typically have an upfront cost around $500.00-$900.00 for products and installation, but it could be more depending on the size of your home and products needed. This system layout is geared towards homeowners that are looking for peace of mind and protection when they are both home and not home. In this scenario, you would be using the same products mentioned above while also installing either glass break or window sensors. Including these products on a system will give you additional coverage when you are home so that you can walk around freely without possibly tripping any of your motion sensors.

Full Coverage

The last price range customers might find themselves in for a new security system is $900.00 and up for products and installation. While this is the most expensive option, it is also the most safe. A system that falls under this category would include the devices mentioned in the previous two paragraphs in addition to life safety products such as smoke and carbon detectors. Over the years, the inclusion of monitored detectors on systems has only grown because of the value they provide. Sure, local detectors are great when you’re home but what about if you’re away for the weekend? Monitored detectors give customers the extra sense of security when they are not home that they are completely covered. Also, it does not hurt that including these types of products on a system should also increase your homeowners discount.

I hope this blog was helpful in providing an idea of cost for a new security system as you begin your search for a company and system that suits you best. As I mentioned throughout the blog we are trying to be as open and honest about pricing as possible. The price ranges mentioned are what we have seen over the course of several years and what we consider fair. With that said, there are companies in our industry that might charge significantly more for the same type of systems so be on the lookout.

If you are interested in a security system the first step in the process should be scheduling an appointment with a company so they can take a look at your home. From there an industry expert will meet with you and explain how systems work and provide different options. Just remember that at the end of the day the best option is always whatever makes you feel most comfortable.

ATP Alarms encourages all customers to have a back up form of communication in the event the primary fails.
