Prevent Water Damage with your Alarm System

Reduce the risk of water damage to your home

Alarm Communications

Did you know that monitored alarm systems can help mitigate water damage? When people think of an alarm system, many think of just security or fire protection. While a robbery or fire can be devastating to your property, water damage can be equally catastrophic. What are some proactive things you can do to reduce the risk of water damage to your home?

Low Temperature Detectors:

A low temperature detector is a monitored device that we can add to your alarm system. When the temperature reaches a certain temperature (either fixed or programmable), the sensor signals the alarm system. When the alarm goes off, we will also notify those on the call list. The purpose is to provide notification of a low temperature wherever the low temperature device is located. This allows property managers to address problems before pipes freeze and potentially explode. We see homeowners putting these devices in parts of the home that are not well insulated or business owners placing them in sprinkler rooms. These devices are very practical and they may also reduce your insurance premium.

Water Bugs:

Water bugs detect moisture. Property owners usually place these by water heaters, washers, or under sinks. When the water bug detects moisture, the alarm sounds and the call list is notified. These devices allow you to immediately address leaks, floods, or burst pipes before the damage worsens.

Annual Inspections of Appliances:

Some property owners hire professional companies to inspect plumbing, utilities, and appliances annually to ensure proper functionality. By having your furnace inspected periodically, it may reduce the possibility of failure in the cold winter months.

We encourage all of our customers to have water bugs and a low temperature detector. There is a one time fee (the monthly monitoring does not change) and you often save money one your property insurance. Additionally, it helps reduce the possibility of a very expensive disruption in your day to day routine.

Security alarms can communicate via internet (hardwired or WiFi depending on the system), phone line, or cellular. Often security alarms have two communication paths—one that is primary and one that is backup. ATP Alarms encourages all customers to have a back up form of communication in the event the primary fails. We believe that the best is setup for fast and reliable communication is internet/WiFi primary with cellular backup. We feel that the internet communication is the fastest while the cellular is most reliable. Traditional alarms relied on phone lines to communicate.
