Security System Objectives

The Friends Center for Children takes the safety of its children, parents, and employees extremely seriously. Through partnership with the general contractor and the Friends Center staff, ATP developed a security plan that considered unique building challenges and budget.

This process usually begins with an introductory phone call to understand expectations, budget, and past experiences. From that initial phone call or meeting, ATP develops an initial plan and budget for review. There are thousands of security solutions on the market and it is important that that the end-user and security integrator are aligned from the beginning.

When implementing security measures for childcare facilities, it is important to install systems that deter unlawful actors. By showing distinct security systems to visitors, such as visible cameras and intercoms, it demonstrates that their security has been taken seriously.

Security Solution

CCTV:

Friends Center for Children ultimately chose a hardwired IP camera system with an on premises server. The system also allows for cloud backup on all cameras. Furthermore, the system has the capability to develop distinct rules and alerts based on a variety of factors (Specific people, vehicles, times, etc.). With over 20 cameras installed, staff and security personnel have overview coverage of the entire facility.

Intercom:

Being a childcare facility, unauthorized access is prohibited. All visitors must enter through a set of doors that has a video intercom. When a visitor rings the intercom, master station rings and also the phones of designated staff members. Staff members can speak with and view whoever is at the door and choose whether to grant access.

Keyless Entry:

Entry doors and other designated doors are electronically managed through the cloud. ATP often recommends cloud hosted solutions unless you have a dedicated IT or Access Control administrator. Each staff member has a designated fob (or mobile credential) that can unlock certain doors at specific times. This system is managed via the cloud through an easy to navigate web portal. If a staff member ever leaves or is terminated, the administrator can quickly erase access. ATP provides all the door hardware and wiring required for a turn-key system (no external locksmith needed for door hardware).

Security Alarm / Panic Alarm:

ATP installed a hybrid hardwired / wireless security alarm system. The system consists of protecting every entry point with supplemental motion detectors. Designated staff and desks have panic buttons that communicate with designated authorities through our monitoring station. The entire alarm system can be managed through the web or a mobile app.

Security alarms can communicate via internet (hardwired or WiFi depending on the system), phone line, or cellular. Often security alarms have two communication paths—one that is primary and one that is backup. ATP Alarms encourages all customers to have a back up form of communication in the event the primary fails. We believe that the best is setup for fast and reliable communication is internet/WiFi primary with cellular backup. We feel that the internet communication is the fastest while the cellular is most reliable. Traditional alarms relied on phone lines to communicate.
