Are you interested in a home security system ? Have you been visiting various companies’ websites? Maybe you have even have had some in home consultations. If so, you have probably read or heard words like “ control panel ”, “ keypad ”, “ contact ”, “ glass break ”, “ motion detector ”, “key fob”, etc. This blog will provide a brief overview of some common devices and FAQs on home security.
Control Panel : A control panel is the “brains of the system”. There is something called a two box solution and a one box solution. A two-box solution is when the control panel is separate from the keypad. The panel is often located in a basement or a utility closet and has a wire running to the keypad. A one-box solution is when the control panel and the keypad are in the same unit. Curious about which is best for your property? Simply submit a form on our website http://atpalarms.com/free-security-review/ and a representative would be glad to assist you.
Keypad : The keypad is often confused for the control panel. The keypad is what you see and use everyday—it is where you arm and disarm your system.
Contacts : contacts are intended for doors or windows. We can also put them on liquor cabinets, medicine drawers, gun safes, etc. The contact has two parts—a contact and a magnet. When the magnet is not next to the contact, an alert is triggered. We can program this to trigger the alarm or simply send you a text or email alert. They can be hardwired or wireless.
Glass break : A glass break is exactly what it sounds like—it detects the sound of glass. One glass break can often protect an average sized room, making it an affordable solution to contacting every window. However, if you having a dog with a high pitched bark or a bird, having a glass break may lead to false alarms. They can be hardwired or wireless.
Motion detector : A motion detector or a PIR (passive infrared sensor) detects motion in your home. To be more specific, it detects heat. There are motion detectors that are pet immune—pet friend up to 60 or even 100 pounds. Motion detectors are the best type of protection for when you are away from home as they cover large areas (180 degrees). They can be hardwired or wireless.
Key fob : A key fob is very similar to your car keychain. On a key fob, you will most likely see 4 buttons. One to arm your system for “Stay”, one to arm you system for “away”, one to disarm your system, and a panic button (which can be programmed to be a silent alarm or audible).
The devices listed above are your most common home security devices .
